Ikea's Green Initiative: Embracing Electric Trucks for a Sustainable Future (2026)

Get ready for a greener future on Italian roads! 🌱🚚

IKEA, the beloved furniture retailer, is joining forces with LC3 Trasporti to revolutionize road freight transport in Italy. Their goal? To create a CO2-free transportation system, and they're starting with a fleet of electric trucks.

But here's the exciting part: the eActros 600, a heavy-duty, long-haul battery-electric truck, is already making its mark. LC3 Trasporti, a logistics provider, has been an early adopter, and now IKEA is following suit. By Q3 2026, they plan to have over ten of these eco-friendly trucks in action, with two already on the road.

This isn't LC3 Trasporti's first dance with the eActros 600. In May 2025, they became Italy's first recipient of this cutting-edge truck, initially for Lidl's operations. The company ordered an impressive 30 units, but the question remains: were they all for Lidl, or were other clients involved?

Now, IKEA is jumping on board, with more than ten eActros 600 trucks dedicated to their operations. These vehicles will handle container transport to and from Genoa and La Spezia ports and deliveries to distribution centers like Piacenza. They'll also manage daily store deliveries across northern Italy, all while reducing their carbon footprint.

"We're on a mission to reduce our environmental impact in Italy," says Ewelina Taylor from Inter IKEA Group. "This partnership allows us to create a greener and quieter environment while optimizing costs."

The benefits are clear: these electric trucks will cover over 1.2 million kilometers annually without CO₂ emissions, a significant step towards a cleaner future. And it's not just about the environment; these trucks are quieter, making night-time deliveries in residential areas more feasible and less disruptive.

But here's where it gets controversial:

Michele Ambrogi, Commercial Director of LC3 Trasporti, believes this project is a turning point, emphasizing the need for supply chain collaboration. But is this the only way to drive change? Are isolated experiments truly a thing of the past?

Maurizio Pompei, CEO of Daimler Truck Italia, sees the eActros 600 as a game-changer, proving that the energy transition is well underway. But is this transition as seamless as it seems, and what other innovations might be on the horizon?

The eActros 600, Daimler Truck's first fully electric articulated truck for long-haul transport, is a significant step towards a greener future. With its impressive range and battery capacity, it's a milestone in European road freight electrification.

What do you think? Is this the future of freight transport, or are there other solutions waiting to be discovered?

Stay tuned as IKEA and LC3 Trasporti lead the way towards a more sustainable tomorrow!
