Louise de Vazelhes, the product marketing manager at Withings, explains, "We're not replacing blood pressure monitors, but if you're unaware of hypertension, we act as a guardian angel."
The device goes the extra mile by performing an ECG to analyze heart rhythm and detect conditions like atrial fibrillation. It even delves into cellular age, providing a detailed breakdown of muscle and fat distribution, especially the elusive visceral fat around your organs. This data is then seamlessly integrated into a smartphone app, offering a comparative health score against others of similar age and BMI.
However, it's important to note that the 'longevity score' isn't a mere guess. De Vazelhes clarifies, "It's designed for proactive health management. For those at higher risk of chronic diseases, it's a powerful tool, giving your body a voice and uncovering silent health shifts. It's particularly relevant for those over 40, but it's not exclusive to them. Athletes with specific goals can also benefit."
The scales' capabilities extend further, including a blood oxygen level readout when the handle is gripped. A screen and controls in the handle allow users to answer lifestyle questions, making health assessments instant and accessible right at home.
With regulatory clearance pending for specific metrics, the Body Scan 2 is set to hit the market in the second quarter, priced at £449.95. Dr. Thomas Platzer, a medic on the advisory board of the German Society of Prevention and Anti-Ageing Medicine, praises its potential, stating, "These scales offer early detection of long-term health decline, a feat previously impossible outside clinical research."
But the tech revolution doesn't stop there. Also launching at CES is the Lili Screen, the first computer monitor designed to assist those with dyslexia, affecting around 8-10% of the global population. With adjustable frequency and backlight, it aims to reduce visual stress and fatigue for dyslexics, making reading more manageable. Bertrand Descours, the general manager at Lili for Life, explains, "Dyslexia often leads to visual stress, causing double vision. The Lili Screen eliminates this, making reading a more comfortable experience."
